Vilnius University respects your privacy. This is to inform you clearly and transparently about how we process your personal data. Our Privacy Policy, among other things, describes what data we collect and for what purpose, how you can manage your data and how you can contact us.

Your personal data are processed in compliance with the Law of the Republic of Lithuania on the Legal Protection of Personal Data, the Law of the Republic of Lithuania on Electronic Communications, other related legal acts and instructions of control authorities. At the beginning, we try to explain some of the important concepts used in the description of the Privacy Policy.

Personal data means any information relating to a natural person who can be identified directly or indirectly by reference to such data according to factors specific to his physical, physiological, mental, economic, cultural or social identity. Personal data include, for example, first name, surname, address of residence, face image, personal ID number, fingerprints, iris, voice record, telephone number, e-mail address, Internet Protocol (IP) address, car registration number, etc.

Data processing means any operation or a set of operations performed with personal data. For example, collection, recording, storage, grouping, combining, alteration, disclosure, searching, destruction, etc.

Data subject means you and any person whose personal data are processed.

Data controller means an organization or a person who uses personal data for professional purposes. It determines the purposes and means of data processing, i.e. for what defined and legitimate purpose, on what legal basis and what personal data it processes, to whom it provides personal data, how it ensures the rights of the data subject, which software it uses to process the data, etc.

Data processor means an organization authorized by the data controller to carry out the data processing work. The data processor acts in accordance with the instructions of the data controller.

Other concepts used in the Privacy Policy are to be understood as defined in the General Data Protection Regulation and other legal acts.

Vilnius University is the controller and the processor of all personal data collected on this website. The data controller and the data processor, i.e. Vilnius University, is responsible for the security of data in accordance with the procedure established by the laws of the Republic of Lithuania. The employees of Vilnius University and other legal entities that are involved in the provision of services are obliged to keep personal data secret. This obligation shall also apply when an employee takes another position, leaves employment or when his/her contractual relationship ends.

We have put in place reasonable and appropriate physical and technical measures to protect information that we collect for content/service provision purposes only. However, please note that, although we take appropriate steps to protect your information, no website, online operation, computer system or wireless connection is completely secure.

Processing of personal data at Vilnius University meets legal requirements, i.e. we keep your data for no longer than is necessary for the purposes for which they were collected or for the period provided for by legal acts. This means that the information will be removed when it is not necessary for the purposes for which it was collected. Personal data in this information system are processed for the purposes of user account administration and processing of users’ audio records intended for translation. Audio records and data used for speech recognition are destroyed immediately after processing. Personal data will never be transferred to third parties, except for in situations where this is imperatively required by law. In accordance with the legal acts on the protection of personal data, you have the following rights:

  • to find out what personal data of yours are processed by VU;
  • to access your personal data we process;
  • to demand the rectification of incorrect, inaccurate personal data of yours (the detailed procedure for rectifying incorrect, incomplete, inaccurate data in the MAVILIS database is established in accordance with the Data Security Regulations and the Description of the Procedure for the Processing of Personal Data at Vilnius University, approved by Order No. R-316 of the Rector of Vilnius University "On the approval of the Description of the Procedure for the Processing of Personal Data at Vilnius University", dated 25 May 2018);
  • to demand the erasure of all data collected about you when they are no longer necessary for the purposes for which they were collected;
  • to demand the destruction of personal data if they are processed unlawful;
  • to demand the restriction of data processing if this meets the criteria laid down by law;
  • to object to the processing of your personal data;
  • to withdraw your consent to use cookies.

Upon receiving such a request or instruction from you, we will, within 30 (thirty) calendar days at the latest, provide an e-mail reply about the taking of the requested actions or will give a reasoned refusal to do so.

Upon your request regarding the exercise of the above rights, we may need to establish your identity, for which reason we may request additional data or documents from you. All these additional data will be used exclusively for the purposes of identifying you and will be immediately safely deleted by us afterwards.

In defending your infringed rights related to the legal protection of personal data, you have the right to file a complaint with the State Data Protection Inspectorate (www.ada.lt).

This Privacy Policy may be updated in order to correct errors or comply with new legal acts or technical requirements. After updating the provisions of the Privacy Policy, which we believe to be essential, we will inform you of this on this website.
